The Des Plaines Public Library is an equal opportunity employer.
The title of this job really should be “Celebrity to the under-5 Set”
…because although the job description says your title would be School Liaison Librarian, this particular librarian will be coordinator of all things Preschool Outreach and Early Literacy. The successful candidate will serve as the library’s preschool liaison to two school districts and many area private and parochial preschools. Expect that kids from all over the city will want to see you when they visit the library. Children will run up to you at the supermarket, point and say, “I know you! Weren’t you in Farm Animals?”
If you would thrive at a job where “work, learn & play” is the motto for the employees as well as the patrons, this is your job. The award-winning Des Plaines Public Library is searching for a part-time Readers’ Services Assistant who loves books, movies, music and working with people. We are seeking someone who has a broad knowledge of fiction and is fluent with online searching, digital downloading and social networking. Responsibilities include selecting titles for our fiction and documentary collections; writing book reviews, bibliographies and blog posts; doing community outreach; creating programs and displays; instructing patrons about our digital collections and our digital devices as well as serving our wonderful patrons at the Readers’ Services desk.
Youth Services…do you have it in you? Without a doubt you love and recommend books and other materials for kids and young adults, can search a database for just the right tidbit of information, can plan and execute the perfectly organized program (all of which we would require of you here). But to do all these things with energy, passion, and a little side of silly when it’s needed is what makes you well-suited for our busy and dynamic Youth Services department.
Duties include providing awesome reference and readers’ advisory services using a variety of resources, assisting with and developing programs that rock for children from birth through eighth grade and their families, and collection development in specific areas. Spanish and/or Polish language skills are definitely a plus, please be sure to indicate any additional languages.
