There’s No Place Like (a forever) Home

Here at DPPL we love second chances.  We offer so many ways to improve your life, start fresh, or try something new. We are thrilled that for the second time we will be giving that same opportunity to loving animals looking for their forever home. Hint, hint....it may be yours.

There are so many great things about our city and the people who live here. Did you know that we have our own powerhouse of a dog rescue operation right here in Des Plaines?

ROAR logo
Roll Over Animal Rescue (ROAR) is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and careful re-homing of dogs of all breeds. ROAR is comprised of volunteers, seasoned rescuers and dog trainers who have been molding dogs into family companions for many years.

On Sunday, October 4th ROAR will be here at the library with pups and dogs looking for their forever home.

If you're considering adopting a pet or, really, if you just need a little puppy snuggle time to brighten your day, come by between 2 and 4pm. I'm really hoping you'll meet your new best friend!

If you're not ready to adopt, there are plenty of other ways you can help. Donations of dog food, paper towels and wipes are always needed. See the ROAR website for ways that you can help.

At the library we have lots of great resources for taking care of your furry family member. Here are some specifically for adopted dogs as well as some heartwarming stories of rescued dogs and the humans who love them.
