Part-time Youth Services Assistant

The Des Plaines Public Library is looking for an energetic Youth Services Assistant practiced in public service to work in a busy, dynamic, and diverse environment. Primary duties include: staffing the Youth Services public desk to provide reference and readers’ advisory services, assisting patrons with participation in our many programs and activities, managing some areas of the collection, participating in our Summer Reading Challenge committees, attending monthly department and library meetings, and planning and executing or hosting programs.

Spanish and/or Polish language skills are definitely a plus, but please be sure to indicate any additional languages. The local school district reports over 60 different languages are spoken in our community’s homes.

Minimum qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one year library work experience with children


two years college and three years library experience with children.


15-hour position:
Monday 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Thursday, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. alternating Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. / Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
