Welcome to Summer at DPPL! 

Clubs for Kids, Adults and Teens start June 2nd!  Here's what you need to know.

For Kids and Families: Reading Takes You Everywhere

Turn a page and you can find yourself reciting spells to make objects fly (Wing-GAR-dium Levi-O-sa) in a wizarding school, or traveling through the kingdom of death to capture a demon you accidentally released. All from the safety of your couch.  All a kid needs is his or her imagination!

This summer, we encourage all kids to use their imagination and travel to distant places and realms with our summer reading program, Reading Takes You Everywhere.

Our program starts on Saturday, June 2nd, when you can sign up with our awesome teen volunteers on the second floor of the library.

Then get ready to start traveling.  Reading logs will help you keep track of your journey, 16 hours or 32 books are your choice of goals.

Also,  be sure to check out fun events we have going on at the library, like our Summer Reading Kickoff and Traveling Through Time series (get your DeLorean ready).

Official exploring and traveling via the summer reading program must be finished by Sunday, July 29th, to earn your prizes.

We cannot wait to see what far off places kids explore this summer!

And we could not have gone too far without some wonderful donations from local businesses this summer.    Check them out!

 

For Teens

Summer @ The Commons

For Teens in Grades 7-12, June 2nd – July 29th, 2018

• Read four books or for 20 hours to earn a $5.00 Starbucks or Forever Yogurt gift card.
• Enter our book review contest to win three books of your choice.
• Get your summer reading card stamped four times by completing reading logs, writing book reviews, or attending teen programs to be entered in our grand prize drawing to win one of three $125 gift cards.

Register on the third floor of the library beginning June 2nd.

For Adults

Come on Down!

From June 2nd - July 29th summer reading is a game show this year.

Actually it's three game shows in one! 

There are three ways to win this summer at the library. 

Read to Win Reading Contest

For each book you read you get an entry in our Grand Prize drawing for a $100 gift card to Hugo's Frog Bar. 

AND

You get a spin on our prize wheel. You could win books, gift certificates and coupons to Via Roma, Amazing Breads and Cakes, Chipotle, the Des Plaines Park District, Twisted Tree Yoga, as well as many other prizes.

Weekly Trivia Contest

Question: On this game show, hosts such as Alec Trebek have amused viewers and participants alike since 1984?

Answer: What is . . .

The Des Plaines Public Library presents a different Jeopardy style trivia question each week. Each correct answer is entered into a weekly drawing. Winners will receive a gift card to a local restaurant.

Our movie bracket challenge. We are pitting the 64 highest grossing films of all-time against each other. Vote for your favorites in each round. Every vote is entered into prize drawing for more fabulous gift certificates.
