Our Friendliest of Friends
Last night at their annual meeting, Friends of the Des Plaines Public Library elected new officers.
Founded in 1954, Des Plaines Friends of the Library is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds to provide gifts (programs, materials, equipment, and artwork) for the library.
The Friends sponsor three yearly used book sales and maintain an ongoing bookshelf located on the first floor, offering used books and magazines for sale throughout the year. Read all about them and the great work they do.
But that sounds so dry, because really, the Friends are much, much, MUCH more that that.
They are not just "Friends", but true friends. Now, and for the past 60 years:
They are life-long library users and lovers.
They are DPPL's champions.
They are DPPL's defenders and supporters.
They are DPPL labor (of love) volunteers
They want the best for all library users and work hard to raise money to fund great stuff.
They are integral to our success and DPPL is so fortunate to have them.
And guess what. You can be a friend too!
The Friends meet the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room on the second floor. There is no meeting in July and December. The general/annual meeting is in May and is held in a first floor meeting room. Contact the Friends at 847-376-2922 for more information.
