We offer great programs for teens, from Anime Club to SAT and ACT preparation. Be sure to check out the calendar for new and upcoming events.
For teens in 7th–12th grade. Anime Club is for teens who want to get together with other fans of anime and manga. Join us to watch your favorite anime, read and discuss manga, create your own artwork, and treat yourself to some Japanese snacks. Meets one Thursday a month from 5–6 in The Commons.
Battle of the Bands
Battle of the Bands kicks off the City of Des Plaines 10 week summer “Friday Nights Live” series on June 21st at Metropolitan Square. Enjoy live outdoor music from local teen bands from 6-9pm. Two winning bands will be chosen and will receive a cash prize.
Are you a solo musician or in a band? Battle of the Bands is a great opportunity for you to play on stage with a live audience at a great outdoor music event. E-mail me for more information.
For teens in 7th-12th grade. One Thursday a month from 4-6pm (or any amount of time you can give) and one Saturday a month during the school year. The Commons is the place to be to make cards for kids in the hospital. We supply the materials and suggested messages—you supply your creativity and energy. Meets in The Commons.
Earn service hours by making no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus, a national organization that provides blankets to children and teens in need. All materials provided by the library. For teens in grades 7-12.
Teen Advisory Board (TAB)
For teens in 7th–12th grade. TAB is where teens come to tell us librarians what the library should be doing for teens like you. Meets one Thursday a month from 4-5. TAB members also volunteer at the library as needed.
T@DPPL: Tutoring at Des Plaines Public Library
Drop in and raise your grades. Tutors from Maine East and Maine West will be available to tutor students in grades 6-12 Tuesdays from 6-8pm in the 3rd floor Commons. Registration not required.
