As part of the Web Services team, you will collaborate with other departments to create new content for the library's website and social media, create documentation and tutorials related to the library's services, and share your expertise in small workshops.
The Des Plaines Public Library is looking for an energetic Youth Services Assistant practiced in public service to work in a busy, dynamic, and diverse environment. Primary duties include staffing the Youth Services public desk to provide reference and readers’ advisory services, assisting patrons with participation in our many programs and activities, managing some areas of the collection, participating in our Summer Reading Challenge committees, attending monthly department and library meetings, and planning and executing or hosting programs.
Spanish and/or Polish language skills are definitely a plus, but please be sure to indicate any additional languages. The local school district reports over 60 different languages spoken in our community’s homes.
Helps maintain a safe and secure environment at the Des Plaines Public Library for customers and staff; addresses disruptive or offensive behavior and minimizes theft of Library materials. Patrols building at regular intervals and appropriately handles observed irregularities or problems. Monitors security video footage. Uses non-violent crisis intervention techniques to diplomatically confront people using disruptive, offensive or inappropriate behavior; evicts from property as necessary. Ensures a positive customer experience by greeting customers, answering directional questions and participating in organization-wide initiatives.
Must be willing and able to respond to all types of building emergencies and service maintenance requests, including those in public restrooms. Must be able to set up meeting rooms with tables and chairs, lift and transport various types of material and boxes.
This internship has proven to be a great start for those interested in LIS, Early Childhood, or other related fields. We are looking for two interns to work with preschool-aged children at our local early learning center performing storytimes and playing a pivotal role in the library’s outreach team. The successful candidates will also facilitate a book borrowing program through the school.
