Graphic Designer

Are you a skilled and versatile designer?  Do you love designing in a variety of styles and formats, for audiences of all ages?  Do you operate best on a team and in a fast paced environment? Bonus: Do you love libraries? 

The Marketing & Communications Services department of the Des Plaines Public Library is seeking a part time Graphic Designer to produce highly creative work from concept to completion to effectively convey library information and brand.

The ideal candidate has exceptional artistic ability, strong graphic design skill using Adobe Cloud and other industry standard design tools, considerable knowledge of commercial and popular trends and ability create for audiences of all ages. They also need a demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize projects under a tight schedule, and communicate productively as part of a team.

This position reports directly to the Head of Marketing and Communications Services and is part of a creative services team that also includes a Creative Services Coordinator, a Digital Designer and a Production Clerk.

Key responsibilities include designing a wide ranges of print and digital materials according to established graphic and branding guidelines. The graphic designer may also assist in designing and installing library displays and other special projects. Excellent customer service and communication required.

Part-Time Materials Services Clerk

Are you looking for a fast-paced job where you can multi-task? Does being physically active appeal to you? Do you have a high attention to detail and do you enjoy using a computer? If you answered “yes” to these questions, then we’ve got the job for you!

The Des Plaines Public Library is seeking a part-time Materials Services Clerk with basic computer skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to be part of an active, friendly team. Responsibilities include checking in materials, pulling items to fill patron holds, answering and directing patron phone calls, and preparing library materials for delivery.

This 20-hour position includes accrued paid time off, as well as IMRF pension benefits.

Part-time Youth Services Assistant (15 hours)

The Des Plaines Public Library is looking for an energetic Youth Services Assistant practiced in public service to work in a busy, dynamic, and diverse environment. Primary duties include: staffing the Youth Services public desk to provide reference and readers’ advisory services, assisting patrons with participation in our many programs and activities, managing some areas of the collection, participating in our Summer Reading Challenge committees, attending monthly department and library meetings, and planning and executing or hosting programs.

Spanish and/or Polish language skills are definitely a plus, but please be sure to indicate any additional languages. The local school district reports over 60 different languages are spoken in our community’s homes.

Web Services Specialist

The Des Plaines Public Library is looking for an experienced and collaborative tech specialist to manage the library’s web presence, including using Sharepoint to create a new library intranet. You will maintain and expand DPPL’s website, mobile app, and other public-facing, web-based software using a variety of CMS and web development tools. You will also monitor, troubleshoot, analyze, and interpret web traffic to ensure a user experience aligned with the library’s strategic goals. Excellent written and spoken communication skills are essential.

Youth Services Assistant Manager

This is a new position in the Des Plaines Public Library Youth Services department.

The successful candidate will be the Assistant Manager to the Youth Services Department Head and serve as the department’s operations manager, overseeing staff schedules and managing the department’s part-time staff, the Youth Services information desk, and specific areas of the Youth Services collection of materials. The Assistant Manager will also work directly with the Department Head in preparing the department’s budgets and strategic goals.

Part-time Security Monitor

Helps maintain a safe and secure environment at the Des Plaines Public Library for customers and staff; addresses disruptive or offensive behavior and minimizes theft of Library materials. Patrols building at regular intervals and appropriately handles observed irregularities or problems. Monitors security video footage. Uses non-violent crisis intervention techniques to diplomatically confront people using disruptive, offensive or inappropriate behavior; evicts from property as necessary. Ensures a positive customer experience by greeting customers, answering directional questions and participating in organization-wide initiatives.

Must be willing and able to respond to all types of building emergencies and service maintenance requests, including those in public restrooms. Must be able to set up meeting rooms with tables and chairs, lift and transport various types of material and boxes.
