Sunday, May 1st is International Workers’ Day

Sunday, May 1st is International Workers’ Day.

In the United States, we celebrate Labor Day in September. In other countries around the world, May 1st is recognized as a day of celebration and advocacy for workers’ rights.

On May 1st, 1886, hundreds of thousands of workers across the globe held a general strike for an eight-hour workday.

Days later, a bloody conflict at a rally in Chicago’s Haymarket Square shook the labor movement and the country.

To commemorate these events, May 1st was declared International Workers’ Day in 1889.

The Exciting Audiosync Program is Back! Two Free Downloads a Week.

If you love audiobooks, or if you are just getting started with them, the SYNC audiobook program is fun, and interesting.  

You may already know it as it has been a summer program for the past 12 years.

It’s targeted toward teens but anyone over 13 years old can access.

Each week the SYNC program provides two thematically paired audiobooks for checkout and use with the Sora App. 

Once the titles have been added to your shelf in Sora, you can listen to them again and again, for as long as you want – just make sure you don’t return them!

Starting on Friday, April 22nd, stop by the Youth Services desk on the second floor of DPPL to pick up a kit (while supplies last!)

Then use the materials to do the project we show you step-by-step in the video.

Grade 4 and up.

This time, you'll learn how to design your own pencil bag!
