Just how much do we know about the beliefs inherent in the vast array of religions that surround us on this planet?  

According to a new study by the Pew Research Center, not enough.

Quite some decades ago, a nun took me aside and urged me not to fraternize with a then-close friend and neighbor who also was my classmate in Catholic elementary school.

Happening at the library

Jo Bonell Is DPPL’s New Library Director

Des Plaines Public Library's board of directors is pleased to announce that Jo Bonell has been appointed executive director of the Des Plaines Public Library, effective immediately.

Jo is a famililar face around the library, having worked for over a decade as the Head of Adult Services.

She is also a familiar face in the community as an active participant in the Des Plaines Arts Council and other Des Plaines initiatives.

As DPPL's school liaison librarian, I have lots of tools to capture a child's attention. 

Outer space props, robots, a prize wheel, glow in the dark T-shirts and my blow-up astronaut costume all make getting the attention of a room full of children for fifteen minutes a piece of cake.

More difficult: corralling the attention of my own children.
