Why I Changed My Mind About Zoom Yoga Classes

My initial experience teaching yoga was to live, in-person classes -- something I never knew I'd have to specify. 

In mid March, we all transitioned to teaching online. 

Far more seasoned teachers than me also had a newfound nervousness within the confines of a format we were unused to, but that's just another addition to the list of things that are the "new-normal."

This contactless service is located on the north side of the building.  

Carry-Out Service is by appointment only.

DPPL will call you to schedule an appointment when your holds are available for contactless pickup. Go ahead and place new holds at this time.

An Update From the Director

Dear Des Plaines Friends and Neighbors:

We miss all of you!

During this period when the coronavirus keeps us physically apart, we hope you are enjoying all of the new virtual programs and services launched online in the past several weeks.

Staff has been busy creating and delivering your favorite in-person library programs and services, as well as brand new virtual offerings, on our website and social media. 

We are also ordering plenty of new eBooks, new eAudiobooks and more online resources.

The building might be closed but the library is definitely open!

The U. S. Census - Tell Me More

Why is the 2020 Census a big deal?

Well, for one thing it dates back more than 200 years. 

The first U. S. Census was organized by Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson.

Both he and President Washington worried that the population was undercounted at less than four million souls (Native Americans were not included). And after spending more than $40,000 on it!

The President blamed (in part), "The fears of others that it was intended as the foundation of a tax.”

Des Plaines Public Library is here to help. Stop by one the library 's Census Response Stations located on the 2nd and 4th floors.  A librarian can answer your questions and assist you in submitting your census online beginning March 12th.

Every 10 years, the census records everyone living in this country. It’s written in the Constitution.
