A sneak peek at The Forum, DPPL’s new adult learning center
DPPL's Fast Forward project is moving, well, forward and fast! Here's the latest on The Forum, the new 4th floor adult digital learning center.
Last week we met with the architect and interior designer to confirm many of the major design elements that will ensure this new space is comfortable, efficient, inspiring and the perfect environment for you to dig in and learn.
This new space meets the demand by Des Plaines residents for in-depth, hands-on technology instruction in a collaborative and spontaneous setting.
DPPL has been a technology hub for Des Plaines for years, but technology no longer means just computers for the public.
DPPL library director Holly Sorensen says:
Technology means digital literacy. Instagram, Facebook, smartphones, digital streaming, LinkedIn, Microsoft Office, Pinterest and so much more. Des Plaines residents of all ages want and need to participate in the digital world and DPPL is here to teach them to do just that.
The Forum is flexible, informal, impromptu and best of all, not hidden away behind closed doors. It is out on the floor, allowing patrons to join at will.
The traditional classroom model - students in rows of desks, teachers up front - is gone.
Instead, flexible work spaces, multiple monitors and a variety of seating configurations allow each "session" to be customized for effectiveness and ease.
Construction on The Forum is slated to kick off in October and the space is currently slated to open in late winter 2016.
It is part of Phase 1, which also includes a 3rd floor eBar and other improvements. Read more about the entire project here.
