The Canvas
August 2024 Updates
The Canvas - DPPL's new creative space - is now under construction and set to open in early 2025.
Here's a peek at what went on behind the plywood in August.
And learn more about the project here.
What is being built behind the plywood on the 4th Floor?
The Canvas is DPPL's new creative space, including studio and instructional space, a digital media lab, and additional study rooms. It is currently under construction on the 4th Floor.
What will patrons be able to do in the Canvas?
In The Canvas, library cardholders will be able to reserve and use a wide variety of sewing and quilting machines, printers, Cricut machines, laser cutters, heat presses, and other hobby and creative arts equipment.
A full schedule of classes, workshops, and drop-in sessions will be offered in the space for all ages.
When will The Canvas open?
We anticipate that the space will open in early 2025.
How did The Canvas project get started?
This project is funded by a restricted donation in memory of long-time and much beloved reference librarian Steven Giese, who passed away in the spring of 2022.
Equipment for The Canvas will be funded through a $64,000 donation from The Rivers Casino/River Gives
July/August Construction Update
Troop Contracting cleared the space, framed the interior walls of each of the different areas, and began installing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
Once the MEP equipment is installed and inspected, it’s time to drywall. Stay tuned for monthly updates!
