This summer, readers can make galaxy dough, battle ghosts, and learn about robotics, all while staying on planet Earth.
We even will have astronaunt training at our kick off party on Saturday, June 8th from 1-3 p.m. For a round up of ALL the exciting programs and happenings this summer explore the mission guide below:
We think this summer will be out of this world, and we cannot wait for everyone to join us in the fun!
Starting on Saturday, June 1st, children birth-8th grade can report to our space station on the second floor to sign up for summer reading.
All children are given the mission of 16 hours or 32 books to complete by July 28th.
Once you get your mission, you can use your log to keep track of your progress!
Kids will receive a glow-in-the-dark shirt for finishing the program.
Tshirts are generously donated by Friends of the Des Plaines Library. Participants also get a book and coupons for getting halfway to their goal.
Speaking of coupons, thanks to all our sponsors who have donated coupons and giftcards for this year's summer reading challenge!
Here are some local businesses who donated to the summer reading Challenge this year:
Brookfield Zoo has donated free zoo tickets for all kids who earn their midpoint goal: 8 hours or 16 books! We have 13 companies who have donated coupons for this year's midpoint prize!
Adler Planetarium has donated passes for our Guessing Jar winners. Every week, we have a new jar full of items and kids need to tell us how many are in there! We have one winner per week, and they receive coupons and other prizes!
Giuseppe's has donated coupons not only for our midpoint point prize, but even donated free pizza slices for our teen volunteers!
Amazing Breads and Cakes donated giftcards to our volunteer raffles! We have around 80 volunteers who help the youth department sign up kids for our summer reading challenge! We honor their efforts with raffles every week!
We are so happy to be working with Charcoal Delights to bring giftcards to some of our guessing jar winners and teen volunteer raffle winners!
And huge shoutout to the rest of our sponsors!
