Wednesday Crafternoons

It’s Wednesday. Let’s Decorate! Pt. II

School's Out!

School’s Out! Virtually this year but still!

The building is still closed but the library is open.

IT'S SUMMER!!!! At least by our standards.

And by every kid who would've been starting "summer vacation" right now.

You know what that means for Youth Services.

Time to DECORATE!!

While we can't go big like other summers, we do have plans.

Stay tuned for this week's Family Friday post.

In the meantime, you may have noticed that there's A LOT going on this year.

And it can be overwhelming.

So let's spread some joy in your neighborhood.

Today, we're going to make some decorative window clings.

Gather your ingredients: glue, dish soap, and food coloring.

Then, find some paper, a paintbrush, and a few plastic page protectors (or Ziploc bags).

Cookie cutters may also come in handy.

Ready? Let's get started.

Step 1

Step 1

Make your "paint."

Combine a little glue and about 2 drops of dish liquid in a small bowl.

Step 2

Step 2

Color and mix.

Add some food coloring and mix it up.

Use separate bowls for different colors.

Step 3

Step 3

Draw and defend.

Use paper and markers to draw something fun.

When you're done, slip it into a plastic page protector.

Step 4

Step 4

Paint your design.

Gently trace the glue mixture over your drawing on top of the plastic.

You can also mold out some easy shapes using cookie cutters. Simply paint a thick layer inside one (also over plastic).

Step 5

Step 5

Lay flat and let it dry OVERNIGHT.

Anything less will make a mess...of your windows.

The glue mixture can simply be tossed out.

Step 6

Step 6

Peel and stick.

Just like a sticker.

Make sure it's dry to the touch though before it goes anywhere near your window.

SHAZAM!

SHAZAM!

We made some hearts, a bow tie, and a couple letters.

What kind of window clings did you make?

The cool thing about this craft is that you can design whatever you want.

Pom pom curtain

Look at this pom pom curtain. So fun!

Write a message. Draw your favorite animal.

Make a smiley face! 😊

The possibilities are endless.

Customize them for the season.

Leaves in the fall, snowmen in the winter, flowers in spring, you get the idea.

Check out these other cool ideas for window decorations.

And don't forget to send some joy our way.

Snap a couple of photos, tag them #DPCrafternoons and share with us on Facebook and Instagram.

See you next week!
