Wednesday Crafternoons
It’s Wednesday. Let’s Go Sailing!
Ahoy there!
It's time to go on a voyage.
There's a reason an entire genre of books is dedicated to adventure.
Who doesn't love the idea of traveling from the comforts of their own home?
Think about the pros.
No running out of money, no icky bathrooms, no ferocious dragon about to bite your head off...
You know, the usual things.
We guarantee an introvert marketed the idea.
Today, we're going to hit the seven seas by building a pirate ship!
Let's stock up on a few supplies first.
Find some paint, glue, scissors, straws, a pencil, a few brushes, some foam or cardboard and finally, an egg carton for the body of yer boat.
Argh! That shall be enough.
Step 1
Cut Up Egg Carton.
Remove the top half of the carton.
Now, decide what size your boat will be.
A small sailboat means chopping off more egg holders whereas a giant ship involves less.
Step 2
Paint your boat.
Paint the inside of your boat.
Once dry, flip it over and paint the bottom.
They can be the same color or different. It's up to you.
Step 3
Add your masts.
Insert a straw into the holes of the carton.
Try making them different heights.
Put a little glue where the straw meets the carton to keep it steady.
Step 4
Make your sails.
Measure out a couple triangles.
The bigger the boat, the larger they should be.
You can use foam, cardboard or paper as a last resort.
Step 5
Fit sails onto the mast.
Punch two holes, spaced apart, in your sail.
Make sure you punch them on one of the shorter sides.
Slide the sail down the straw.
Step 6
Decorate your ship!
Come up with an emblem for your ship and draw it on.
Add some stickers or gems to your sails, etc.
Give your boat a fancy name!
SHIPS AHOY!
Captain Adams presents to you THE SCAVENGERS!
One carrying the booty.
The other preparing for battle.
The real question is which one's which. ☠️
It's fun to talk like a pirate, isn't it?
Brush up on your pirate lingo and have a boat race for some chocolate doubloons!
Loser gets to walk the plank.
Or swab the poop deck.
You decide which is worse.
What would Captain Hook choose?
Meanwhile, here are some other cool egg carton crafts.
Now off we go to Crafterland with paper, scissors and just a little or A LOT OF—
Avast, ye landlubbers! Me thinks ye forgettin' something.
Snap a couple of photos, tag them #DPCrafternoons and share with us on Facebook and Instagram.
Ye know the drill.
Aye, check back in next week for more craftiness.
