May the 4th Be with You

May 4th is Star Wars Day, and though all of the droids and Storm Troopers are sheltering in place there is still fun to be had!

Having trouble feeling the force this Star Wars Day?

I hope this simple origami Yoda helps you find your inner Jedi.

This diagram of the Five-Fold Origami Yoda is from the Tom Angleberger book The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.

Origami can be challenging, yes, but this project only has FIVE FOLDS, and all you need is a rectangular piece of paper.

I used printer paper because it was all we have here at my house.

I made a Baby Origami Yoda too!

Here are the steps:

Plain paper rectangle

Lay your rectangle of paper on a flat surface.

Origami Yoda fold 1

Fold the right side in toward the middle.

The edge of the paper should fold in to the center of the rectangle.

Origami Yoda fold 2

Fold the left side in toward the middle.

The edge of the paper should fold just past the middle, it needs to have the right side overlap it when they are both folded in.

Origami Yoda fold 3

The left edge that you just folded in will remain folded.

Take the upper corner and fold it out to the left, the corner will stick out from the side - it won't be flush against the left seam.

Origami Yoda fold 4

Lay the right side over the left, fold the corner from the right side outward in the same style as the left.

Origami Yoda fold 5

Fold the top down, bringing the edge of the top to the point where the center folds visibly overlap.

Origami Yoda finished

Color your Yoda if you want to.

I had colored pencils, so you can see it isn't perfect but it's still super cute!

As always, check the library catalog for Star Wars books, DVDs, and more.
