Move & Groove at Kiwanis Park
To everything there is a season: a time to move and a time to groove.
For a group of about 26 kids and grownups and 2 children's librarians, that time arrived at 4:30 with storytime at Kiwanis Park.
We gathered under some tall trees in a grassy area to enjoy Nanette's Baguette by Mo Willems and Peekaboo Morning by Rachel Isadora.
The rhyming text and familiar faces in the stories were engaging and comforting.
We even had a special guest, Buzzy the Bee, (a hand-puppet) read along with us!
We sang songs and rhymes while twirling and tossing scarves.
As usual, we wrapped up with dancing and bubbles.
One tiny girl was so mesmerized by the bubbles that she spent a solid five minutes staring tinto the spinning wheel and laughing with glee as the bubbles emerged.
On the asphalt near our story spot, we drew a chalk course.
It invites kids to follow a series of arrows and perform movements like "jump from flower to flower and leaf to leaf," "spin like a busy bee" and "race back to the hive."
It was such a joyful time and we are so grateful to everyone who stopped by.
Special thanks to the Des Plaines Park District!
