Happening at the library

Simplified for you: Introducing the library’s new website

We're so excited to introduce to you our new, simplified website, redesigned to fit into your life, wherever you are. The new site is easier to get around with a smartphone or tablet. It's also easier to find the information you need, especially information about our great programs and events. Let me tell you a little bit about these changes and I think you'll agree that simpler is better.

Everything in its place

One of the first things you might notice is that we changed how you get around on the new site. We went through every page of the old site, decided whether or not to keep it, and reorganized it on the new site. We focus on things you can do here at the library, events and programs, online resources to make you smarter, and guides to help you navigate the library and our website.

If you're feeling a bit lost and are wondering where to go, I recommend checking out our Guides or starting in Patron Services. The search bar and links to the catalog or account make it easy to hop over the library catalog or checkout your account.

Information on the go

Do you browse around the Internet on smartphones and tablets? If you are, you know how frustrating it can be to peck around a website that doesn't fit your device. That's why when you're on the new library website, it just fits. Everything moves around and resizes to look good.

It's not just people with mobile devices that get this benefit. We have people with hundreds of different screen sizes visit our site. So, whether you're on a latop or a large monitor, you'll still have a good experience.

Know what's happening and when

One of the features I'm most excited about is the improved DPPL event calendar. We want to make it easier for you to find out what's going on at the library. There are a few basic categories to narrow things down--Adults, Kids, Teens, and Community. You also can hone in a specific type of event. Say, you want to see which computer classes we're offering, or when the next storytime is. It's right there and it's so easy to do.

Useful tip: Bookmark the calendar page after you narrow it down. When you come back, you'll see updated events for group you care about the most.

When you visit the calendar, you'll automatically see what's happening this week plus the next two weeks. This makes it easier to plan things out and sign up for upcoming classes and programs. If you need to register for something, be sure to click on or press the event title and sign up.

Like the new site? Get a DPPL USB drive or headphones

We wanted to do something special to kick off the new site and to say "Thank you" for supporting the library. Print out or show this coupon on your device at the 1st floor Information Desk or the 3rd floor Readers' Services desk. You'll be able to choose a cool, customized USB drive or a pair of headphones. They're great for showing your library love.
