Wednesday Crafternoons
It’s Wednesday. Let’s Get Fancy!
The library was always open but now the LOBBY is open. Baby steps.
You are invited to a soirée!
That's a fancy word for party.
But not just any party.
A party with your finest jewels and clothe-
Huh? You can't find your prized locket?!
Hmm, could it be buried underneath all those earrings and bracelets?
Sometimes, we have more jewelry than we can keep track of.
SO it's time to get organized!
Today, we're going to craft a "hand-held" jewelry holder.
Find some cardboard, markers, tape, scissors, newspaper, and paint.
We'll also be working with paper mache.
So gather the following ingredients: flour, water, salt, and maybe some glue.
Step 1
Trace Your Shapes.
Take a marker and trace both your hand and wrist on some cardboard.
Next, trace out a circle.
Use an object like a mug or a bowl to help.
Step 2
Make A "Stand"
Cut out your shapes.
Then, cut a vertical line down the wrist.
Split the wrist, fold the tabs, and tape them down onto the cardboard circle.
Step 3
Paper Mache Mix
Combine one cup each of water and flour with four teaspoons of salt.
An alternative is one cup glue and a third cup water.
Then, cut up two inch strips of newspaper.
Step 4
Build Layers.
Dip the strips in the mixture and wrap them around the hand "stand." 😆
Apply about 3 layers everywhere.
Wait until dry before adding each new layer.
Step 5
Paint your hand.
Make sure the paper mache is dry before you start.
Use whatever colors you want!
Let it dry overnight.
Step 6
Glam it up!
Decorate with some gems, sequins, ribbon, etc.
Don't forget to add on some jewelry. 💍
BLING BLANG GLAM!
Try saying that for a tongue twister.
You can do variations of this craft too!
Build a tree with lots of branches or a flower with multiple petals.
Get creative and try these other jewelry display ideas.
Or maybe you just enjoyed getting messy with paper mache.
If that's the case, here are some more awesome paper mache projects to keep you busy.
You found your locket?! FABULOUS!!!
Now, onto the soirée or you'll be late!
Tardiness is not fancy.
Besides, it's the perfect opportunity to show off your latest creation! ✨ 💎 ✨
Snap a couple of photos, tag them #DPCrafternoons and share with us on Facebook and Instagram.
You know how this works.
Check back in next week for more craftiness.
