Wednesday Crafternoons
It’s Wednesday. Let’s Scream Ice Cream!
The building is still closed (but reopening very soon!) but the library is open.
We're having ice cream?!! BLEH!
said no one ever.
Who doesn't love ice cream?
Cold and sweet.
It's the perfect summer treat. 🍦
Well, minus the occasional brain freeze.
But really, the pros beat the cons.
One, two, or three scoops? With chocolate syrup or sprinkles or BOTH?
These are the real concerns.
What's really awesome is that ice cream comes in all forms.
Sundaes, popsicles, floats, sandwiches, CAKE.
So today...you guessed it.
We're going to build a GIANT ice cream cone!
Grab some poster board, brown butcher paper (or construction paper), tissue paper, balloons, tape, and maybe a Sharpie.
Ready? Let's get started.
Step 1
Create a base.
Trace around the poster board and cut out shape from butcher paper.
Lay them over each other.
Then, seal edges by taping them together.
Step 2 (Optional)
Sharpie on diagonal lines.
This'll make your ice cream look more realistic.
For a waffle cone design, add diagonal lines going the other way as well.
Step 3
Make your cone!
Roll up the poster board (lines face out) and tape shut.
Poster board is heavy, so use stronger tape.
Step 4
Create the first scoop.
Add tissue paper inside cone and let it flow over edges.
Tape down on the outside in a wavy design.
Waves resemble melting ice cream.
Step 5
Add a second scoop.
Blow up any color balloon and tape it into your cone.
Use more tape on outside to secure it.
Step 6
Sprinkles galore!
Decorate the balloon with some sprinkles.
We used fruit, cookie bits, and geometric foam shapes.
You can also glue on gems, sequins, confetti, etc.
And don't forget the cherry on top!
YUM!
What flavor did you make?
We used red, white, and blue. Coincidence?
Nope! Have a Happy 4th of July!
Remember, improvise as needed and don't forget to have fun!
Snap a couple of photos, tag them #DPCrafternoons and share with us on Facebook and Instagram.
Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, they're the original trio.
But can you name all ten flavors in the felt below?
Here are some more ice cream crafts to keep you cool this summer.
As always, see you next week!
