The Other Awards
Last week, while Chicago excavated itself from the blizzard or 2015, I sat down coffee in hand with snow drifting outside and children still asleep in their beds, and viewed the live webcast of the American Library Association's Youth Media Awards.
It was a librarian moment of bliss. It is such a treat to see authors honored for doing great work and to hear the excited screams from my fellow librarians and book lovers when a favorite author is announced.
Of course we are all cheering for our best loved books and authors, but I also get excited about finding out about honor worthy books I may have missed. The YMAs are a great opportunity to add to my to-be-read list or bump up a book to the top of the pile. If you only read books written for an adult audience, check out the Alex Awards below for the best adult books that appeal to teens.
The Alex Award might be my personal favorite because it gives me the opportunity to read books written for adults while still adding to my list of books to recommend to teens. For winners in the teen categories, check out the list below. For a complete list of the winners and honor books for children and teens you can visit the ALA website.
